en We have obviously some very bright kids who can do some high-level academic work. But when it comes to playing basketball, nobody cares. Unless we do a good job, nobody's going to appreciate the kind of people that we are or the kind of students that we are.

en Our point guard position was really tremendous, especially in the second half. That's the kind of production we need at all our positions. Let's face it, we're the kind of team right now where we're playing eight guys (Friday). We need six out of eight (players) playing at a high level to beat a team like Sacramento.

en You just kind of get out there and don't even think about it. You're just playing basketball. We've all played basketball at some level at every point in our lives. You're just out there trying to execute.

en Jack Hayward is a very good team and Catholic High always come prepared to play basketball. There will be a lot of competition but the C.I. Gibson holiday classic is all about getting these kids off the street. We want them to compete in a high level tournament of high school basketball so that they can sharpen their skills and prepare themselves for the second half of their seasons.

en It's nice to have kids to come out and meet us, and we get to meet them. It's kind of a little reward for them for some of the things they are doing in their academic program. I'm glad to be a part of it and it's kind of exciting to see smart young kids.

en The kids are kind of excited about playing in their old home. The Civic Arena is strictly a basketball facility as opposed to the new multi-purpose facilities. These kids understand about Aberdeen basketball and its history. Some of their parents played in the arena.

en I'm kind of surprised on what we've gotten on a couple of these kids. We're just hoping that someone will give them an opportunity. They're so big, and they're good kids and will work hard for you. What they can accomplish is kind of unlimited. What I'm hoping for is after signing day if these schools didn't get exactly what they were looking for, that might open the doors for our kids.

en I have got a lot of kids who just believe in one another. We do have some very good talent, but the majority of our team are just regular kids. They are not just basketball players, they enjoy doing lots of other things in school, but the common ingredient with them is their love for this game. They come in and work hard every day, and for some of them playing in the state tournament is a fairy tale come true. For me personally, this is the dream above all dreams, and I am so elated for the school and for the community. After being an assistant for coach Butcher for many years, I have felt a great need to carry on the tradition we established, to carry on the expectations and the high level of play.

en He was the kind of teacher that was typically the students' favorite. He challenged all of his kids and his colleagues every day. He drove them to be the best they could be, drove them to perform at their optimum level. He really reached a lot of students that were not scholars.

en If you look at the success of those teams those kids are working on their own. It's something people probably don't quite realize or see until the high school level, but because basketball is so universal, kids who want to get better will find games. Camps and tournaments are all over the place for kids who want to play.

en There's an intimacy lost on the big audiences, but there's also a sort of cool kind of buzz that you get from it too, like 'Wow -- there are 10,000 people here.' It tends to be a little more high energy, and you try to capture as many people as you can; whereas with a small show, you reveal a little bit more personality. I almost feel like I'm there hanging out with them or something. We mix it up. I do little intimate shows just because if I go a long time without doing them, it gets kind of weird -- like I'm playing at people.
