Crude prices reflect a $20 fear premium.

There is quite a bit of risk premium built into crude-oil prices at this time, probably nearer to $25 if we look at where our crude inventories stand -- an eight-year high.

The separatists in Nigeria could further disable crude- oil output in that country at any moment, increasing the supply- fear premium.

We might see some reflection on crude prices as well as gasoline prices going forward, but not by much. I hope that people do not have high hopes for much lower crude prices or gasoline prices, because that is not in the cards.

Crude prices pushed near the all-time record high of $70.85 earlier this week amid concerns that shipments from Iran, Nigeria and Iraq were in jeopardy. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. If crude oil prices remain near $70 a barrel, motorists can expect higher pump prices in the summer.

What that says is that even though crude oil prices are at near-record highs, gasoline prices are much higher than the crude oil prices would dictate.

Over the past few weeks, crude prices and gas futures have dropped and increased and dropped. Until crude oil prices start to drop significantly -- and it's hard to figure out when that's going to happen -- I don't think we're going to see gas prices dropping.

Crude oil prices took a jump after the attempted attack. Crude is the biggest factor in determining gas prices, and $2 per barrel in one day is quite a hike.

Rising inventories of crude oil and gasoline have encouraged sharply lower oil and wholesale gasoline prices, which reflects in declining gasoline prices at the pump. Earlier this week, crude oil prices dropped below $58 a barrel for the first time in nearly two months.

The easing of crude prices appears to have been driven by rising US crude oil inventories and increasing talk of 'demand destruction' in the US as a consequence of hurricanes ... and high retail oil prices.

Fuel prices have become particularly unstable in the past few weeks. Worries about the security of crude oil supplies are pushing prices up while growing domestic inventories of domestic crude oil and refined products are pushing prices down.

Refined product fundamentals are quite strong and likely to pull up crude prices. If one adds to all this the possibility of continued 'hot' news from Iraq, Iran, Nigeria and Venezuela, crude prices are likely to rise next week.

Crude oil prices are being driven by fear and speculation. The price (of gasoline) is a minimum of a dollar a gallon too high.
