en Over time there have been 35 significant churches in the city since 1712, and their stories and histories really give us a sense of the people coming and going throughout that time.

en I feel like the city has learned that churches provide a tremendous resource. In time of crisis, what we need is the churches stepping forward. ... I believe the city has learned there are resources in churches that they need to tap into in the future.

en Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. There were more nerves than the first time I pitched in Safeco Field. I wasn't sure how the arm would be. I'd heard so many stories about people coming back and their arms blowing out their first time out.

en And you see those stories repeatedly, everywhere across this city. That the sense of desperation among these people is growing and while the operations at the Superdome, seem by the end of the week finally to be getting into gear, there are just so many other people across the city of New Orleans and all of these other parishes who just have no help whatsoever.

en We all have histories. A lot of people think that the mixing of racial groups is a relatively new thing, but what we have found in doing our research is that we are all closely related. The African and Native American histories are left out of conventional histories.

en It's a joint effort between two churches. It's time the churches in this area start working together to see more people saved.

en Some churches from time to time had gone through the trauma of splitting. Churches would call him in. He had a ministry of helping them to heal.

en It's empowering. There's no sex in it. It's very high-minded. It's stories of humanity and people coming away with a sense of wanting to expand our sense of humanity.

en The whole community is embracing us right now. Any time I have people I don't even know coming up to me, shaking my hand and telling me congratulations and good luck, you want to play for people like that. You are going to give everything you have. That's what we do every time we step out on the court.

en It's about the power of stories. It's through our stories that we come to know each other and share our histories.

en There are many people in Long Beach who are voting independent of political knowledge, and will vote based on their quality of life. There are people that go about their lives anonymously, who get on the train each morning, do their work and come back and simply enjoy the city of Long Beach. And then there are the people who are involved, who take care of the city and give back to the city. When I go to events in the city, I see many of the same faces each time. And that's a tight-knit group that crosses party lines.

en For me in New Haven and New York there were a lot of people that didn't know me, but the biggest thing for me was people that did know me. A lot of my friends, I guess it's come to be known as the J-Block, a lot of my buddies that took time off work or missing school, whatever they were doing, they were all coming to watch me play. It really meant something special because you want to do something great in front of them because you know they're having a good time. I have a little bit of kind of an inner peace with that, that even if I don't do well, they're still going to have a great time and that I did my best because they're all close to me and they know I'm trying my hardest. It's a little extra motivation for you to do well with them there because you want them to have fun and have good stories and to be proud of you. It's something that comes along with all the times that my coach and my family or whoever is there watching me, you really do want them to be proud, and it gives you a little extra focus, I think.

en The students have learned a lot. First, learning about the level of devastation. What we saw on TV does not reflect what the reality is here and hearing the personal stories of people and how they have been affected by the hurricane. It's been really moving and educational. At the same time, the sense of optimism and hope that the people of Mississippi have has been amazing.

en People got all upset because they don't like to see people they know getting pushed out, and they don't know the new people coming in, ... But this company has been underperforming for some time. Significant change is needed.

en She wouldn't give us a time exactly when she was coming home, as far as airplane time, and that I found kind of bothersome to me, because I would think she would tell me exactly when and what time she was coming home, like what reservation and what plane she's going to come in.
