It's amazing to me the headline news we've had this year in a negative way and the market has been able to maintain at least an even keel. That speaks to the real strength of our economy and the real strength of corporate earnings growth.

Granted, a low-quality job is better than no job, but the headline employment figures exaggerate the real strength of the Canadian labor market.

The strength of the GDP report, the better-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings, are all reinforcing the idea that the economy and corporate profits are showing strong growth, and you are seeing stocks respond,

We're seeing a nice handful of earnings today. That is going to be the driver. The other driver, or the thing that's not going to hold us back this quarter, and I would argue has held us back the last three quarters, is the consensus is the Fed is done for the year, ... We don't have a credit tightening cycle to go through and we're seeing terrific earnings. So I would argue that the focus returns now to earnings growth, revenue growth, the strength of corporate America and not necessarily the macro-economic themes like monetary policy which have been on the forefront for the last couple of quarters.

H&R Block's real strength is they have these branch offices everywhere and a lot of talented people who do taxes and that's a real strength and they need to focus on that. They demonstrated pretty clearly last year that they weren't very good at the Web side of it, so they've got to get better, but the main focus is bringing what they do well to more people.

The main reason for that is corporate earnings growth. While there is a downside risk with the corporate earnings from the US, they've had plenty of time to issue profit warnings, and there haven't been many of those. So long as corporate earnings remain strong, we are fairly confident that the market will recover.

State incentives aside, companies like Raven Moon that are creating their own content are our growth generators -- and are the real strength of this market.
