I've taught hearing-impaired kids at public schools for 17 years. You might have two or three deaf kids in the whole school. A lot of times, those mainstreamed kids end up feeling alone.

We're hearing much more about elbows being thrown, especially if you're talking to people in Silicon Valley. There's a lot of competition out there.

These are two poor communities that will finally have a chance to improve their lot. Down in the valley, everything is for sale.

The point is those critics say that if you sign with a baby they won't learn to talk. But it's not going to stop them from talking. And there also are those who would say why stop a deaf child from talking if they have access to hearing?
