Since Gov. Romney is ordsprog

Since Gov. Romney is not seeking re-election, there is no campaign to run, and so he has ended his contractual relationship with Mike Murphy. Mike has been a trusted friend and adviser, and he always will be.

Not in my mind. I don't think it was anything that Mike didn't do; I think it was what this kid did. I know Mike won't agree with it, but Greg's better. He's younger, a little more athletic, snaps the ball a tad bit quicker. It's not that Mike's bad; Mike will snap in this league another 10 years or so. I just think this guy's better.

Mike and I have been talking about it for quite a long time. He did suggest it once and I turned him down. I didn't think it was the right time. Mike will be involved as one of the trusted people in the hockey business.

It's easy for us to see (Flanagan) as a player, but Mike knew him as a person. So really Mike was, I want to say the closer in the deal. He was the one with the relationship that gave us the best opportunity to get the kid. No doubt about that.

Chris came off the corner and started to get underneath Mike. Mike came out of the corner too and I saw them make contact. Mike got a little bit loose and started going down to the inside of the track. I just stayed on the gas and went by both of them on the outside. I was able to beat Mike into turn three.

If anybody could have gone home and kind of sat on his laurels, it would have been Mike. I told Mike, 'You're being awful picky, but it is deeply appreciated.' Mike's a good shortstop, but he wants to be the best.

Buck Showalter (1956-)

I regret the fact that we couldn't get it worked out with Mike, ... I always liked Mike, and Mike was a very good player here. He's playing very well right now.

We understand that they have a right to franchise him. Is it disappointing that what Terry said hasn't come into fruition? Yes. It's a business. Mike's the GM. Mike has to do what Mike has to do.

I applaud Mike on the spirited campaign he built and his contributions to his community as a committed and dedicated legislator and attorney. I hope Mike will continue to apply his talents, in ably and effectively representing his district as an impassioned voice for the communities of Melrose and Wakefield.

Mike adds a lot to our staff and our team. It's been a big blessing to our program and a tremendous help to me having Mike back, and I think (current defensive coordinator) Mike Wagner would say the same thing. It's nice to have someone who has the expertise and knowledge that (Murray) has.

Everything with Mike is about the team, ... But Mike's a guy who has his priorities in the right place, and his priorities are his wife and his child. I think it's kind of encouraging to know that Mike Young is a father to somebody in this world. I'd like to have that kid at my school, or [coach him] in baseball. Buck Showalter (1956-)

Jim Wilkes is a like a father to me. He's a good friend. We have fun together, we golf together and we hang out. In fact, I just got off the phone with him and our relationship hasn't changed. He advised me, but I never paid him to be my adviser. He looks over me as a friend and will always do that. For people to say he will not, just is not true.
