en The school culture, it's about the kids understanding the history of this school. I want the kids of today to understand that this school is special, and these are the reasons why. en I went to school at this log school house. A white woman was my teacher, I do not remember her name. My father had to pay her one dollar a month for me. Us kids that went to school did not have desks, we used slates and set on the hued down logs for seats.

en You can't come in and out of the school, with the locked doors and security, and not be affected. It's a shame these people had to go through that. It makes your jaw drop to hear the story. I can't imagine what these people went through and you kind of look at all the kids and you feel bad for what happened.

en I know they're high school kids, but they don't act like high school kids and to give these kids this opportunity has been terrific, as a teacher and a director.

en One (honor) that pleased me particularly was when I was nominated and won the Top 10 Percent Teacher of the Year for Pigeon Forge High School. I appreciated that honor. A lot of kids forget that you're even their teacher and in your class.

en As a teacher, that's what you like to hear. They say they can't wait to go to school and work on it. They have come alive.

en As a teacher this is exciting. The kids are learning new experiences, and it is a carry over. Many of the kids discuss the club in school as well. We hope to continue this program for years to come.

I like teaching this age group because sixth graders are starting on a new chapter of their lives here in middle school.
