As a teacher this is exciting. The kids are learning new experiences, and it is a carry over. Many of the kids discuss the club in school as well. We hope to continue this program for years to come.

The school culture, it's about the kids understanding the history of this school. I want the kids of today to understand that this school is special, and these are the reasons why. I am a former social-studies teacher. When you're a teacher, you're always a teacher. This is a way to extend my classroom teaching into an administration.

The kids have bought into the program and believe in what they are doing. Most of them have been starting for two years or more, and nothing is a better team teacher than experience in football. The last two years we've made positive strides, so hopefully, this trend will continue.

We have a recreation program now in town. The kids are learning at an earlier age. The people at the recreation program are doing an outstanding job, getting the kids ready for high school. That's another goal.

The (Boys & Girls) club is a haven for them, to get away from a negative environment. It provides great opportunities for kids. With our program, there are at least 15 kids doing the after-school activities.

It's not a new concept, but it's brand new for this program. It's brought kids back into school that we couldn't get into school. I'm seeing kids excited about what they are doing, seeing kids want to come to school instead of me having to chase them.

We thought we could do it in a couple of years, but it finally happened and it's real exciting for the kids, for the community, for the school, for our program. Our whole motto this year is 'Nothing but greatness.' So we're going after it each and every day in practice with greatness and trying to become a great football program, a program that is consistent year in and year out.

I have got a lot of kids who just believe in one another. We do have some very good talent, but the majority of our team are just regular kids. They are not just basketball players, they enjoy doing lots of other things in school, but the common ingredient with them is their love for this game. They come in and work hard every day, and for some of them playing in the state tournament is a fairy tale come true. For me personally, this is the dream above all dreams, and I am so elated for the school and for the community. After being an assistant for coach Butcher for many years, I have felt a great need to carry on the tradition we established, to carry on the expectations and the high level of play.

We started the program nine years ago with kids that were just learning to play hockey, so this is a fulfilling day for me and a lot of original parents who helped for the organization. We're extremely proud of these kids, particularly, and for all the people who laid the groundwork.

I was really, really happy that the high school kids got back their stuff. We started later in the year but something is better than nothing. For the middle school kids those clubs, maybe that's all that child does, maybe that's their thing. Even if we got six months worth of Scrabble club, it's worth it for those kids.

I know they're high school kids, but they don't act like high school kids and to give these kids this opportunity has been terrific, as a teacher and a director.

The day they tell me I can't hug them (my students), I'll quit. As an elementary teacher, my kids know that when they need a hug, there's one there for them. . . . (But) were I a teacher in a junior high or high school, I would not be hugging the kids.

It is such a learning experience for the kids - and for us, too. This is our first year doing this. It is so interesting, ... The nice thing is that you don't have to live in the country to do this. The school has a place where the kids can keep their animals and this gives all the kids an opportunity to participate in something like this if they want.

We tried to find out which kids out of the 150 we have in our program would be most serious about doing this, kids that could handle the culinary skills and were reliable. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. The kids were great. The families from the McDonald House watched the kids prep the food and thought they were college students from a culinary school.

The kids are excited about it. For awhile it was, 'Who is it going to be? Who is it going to be?' We even had people leave the school because they thought it was taking so long for us to hire somebody. Now they know Coach Stevens; he's there. He has had one meeting and it was very crowded, very exciting. There were a lot of kids who were very interested in it. The kids are upbeat right now.
