en One of the things that has to be faced is the process of waiting to change the system, how much we have got to do to find out who we are, where we have come from and where we are going.

en The defense has progressed very well. It has been a process and that happens anytime there is a change like that. The new terminology and new system take awhile, but the guys have bought into the system, and they are playing hard. We just have to keep improving and keep coming.

en It was the right thing to do. We helped thousands of families who were forced from their homes without basic necessities. To slow down that process in order to find out who is trying to cheat the system would have hurt those who the system is designed to help.

en It's a time-consuming process. It would not be unusual to find most people do not want to do that indefinitely. It's also a process where the rewards are largely internal; school board members get an inordinate share of the blame when things don't go well and very little of the credit when things do go well.

en The people are learning that you cannot leave decisions only to leaders. Local groups have to create the political will for change, rather than waiting for others to do things for them. That is where positive, and sustainable, change begins.

en Sixty to 80 percent of outages are caused by change. It doesn't break until you change it. We've added context launch, so that from within a fault or performance management system, you can click on the device that's having a problem and pull up the change history on that device. It allows you to eliminate a huge amount of manually tracking down why a device has changed, what the approval process was and so on.

en There had been no standardization among desktop computers. Although it seemed as if we were changing only the accounting system (or desktop), we were implementing a large culture change. We faced a training challenge when we asked people to transition to a Windows 95 environment from DOS.

en People are waiting to see, just as they are waiting to see if the levees will be strong enough. They're waiting to see whether it's a new school system or the same old, same old. ... People are going to be watching very carefully.

en But we think that with the kind of commitment our communities are showing, that we can change the patterns of eating and weight gain, exercise, smoking cessation, all of those other things that could change the course of our health care system.
