Some people will say it doesn't matter, but I think it was a pretty important win just because of losing those four in the playoffs and going 0-6 here this year, ... We had motivation, losing to them last year and losing some tough games this year. So I said, Okay, let's see what you've got.' I'm so proud of these guys, the way they answered the call. Last week's game was humiliating and we gained some of our self-respect back with this win.

You hate to say don't worry about the winning or losing, but if kids are pitching at the major league level at an early stage, maybe before they should be, it's important that they learn. They are going to have some down times. ... The player has to be pretty tough minded and a mentally strong person to be able to conquer a lot of that.

Anytime you come into a match like this, of this magnitude, as a rookie, you really just don't grasp the entire concept of it. Mentally this year, I feel 100 times more prepared than last year, knowing what to expect.

We're coming off a 6-6 season and me tearing up my knee, ... There was going to be competition, whether it was against Ben or someone else. Losing to Wyoming was a rude wakeup call. We got a lot of motivation after losing to them last year. We played really good team basketball today. It took a while for the team to gel this year, but it worked out well. We are only losing 2 players this year. Every year our goal is to win State. We might not get it every year, but it's always our hope.

(The losing this season) was not what I anticipated, nor expected, and certainly not what I accept. But we're anticipating we're going to be successful next year. We played four freshmen at times this year and had some injuries to seniors. And we have a great class coming in.
