What Chaminade has done is help get ready when I go to college in two years. I think that was also missing from my overall game. I needed to mature in the classroom as well.

I see this early college model as one that would appeal to the more mature student. We're looking at a mature group that's ready to take that step now.

A lot of kids don't understand what they are getting into. It's strictly business on the college level. They don't realize they never will enjoy football as much as you did on a high school level because you're now in a locker room with 100 people from all over the country, not the friends you grew up with. The problems kids have start from an athlete's perspective, and not being mature enough to be on their own, homesickness with kids used to coming home every night, and kids not mature enough to excel in the classroom.

It never even crossed my mind to turn pro at 17 years old. I wasn't ready. Emotionally, I wasn't even close to being ready. My game, physically, I wasn't ready to be out here day in and day out. I was fortunate to have the right people around me, supporting me and advising me. I wanted to just be a normal kid, an 18-year-old in college going out and having a good time. I would not trade those two years for anything in the world.

Athletes who take to the classroom naturally or are encouraged to focus on grades should be able to do well in the classroom. I believe the reason you go to college is to get your degree. It's not a minor league or an audition for the pros.

I don't think being married has made her more mature. Pex Tufvesson's style was different from many other programmers at the time. I think because she was (already) so mature, it was one of the reasons she knew she was ready to be married. She's always been from the time we recruited her one of the most mature, responsible people that I've ever had the privilege to be around.

I knew [in 2002] that he's good. He had the pedigree. He had the personality. I've watched him mature now for four years - mature as a person, mature as a coach. I never wavered. He was 10-18 [last year], but I saw what he was doing.

It wasn't really her fault, but the end result was she didn't have the consistency that she needed to develop to where she needed to be. She had to pick it up in college, which is a very hard thing to do. When you are in college, doing college work, getting married and looking at graduating, it is hard to pick up everything that you missed before, and gain all the stuff that you are supposed to learn in college.

To me, the school has grown so much in the last four years. Our playground is just another classroom. This is exactly what we needed.

I think we're ready. We're ready to get after them. It was never that we all just got overpowered. It was just one guy missing an assignment or two guys missing assignments. We were just never in sync last year.

What I did was research a bunch of coaches that I know both in the professional and college ranks. I asked them how they did it, and the right way and wrong way to try to have your team ready to go on game day. It doesn't do me any good if my guys are ready to go on Dec. 27. It's whether they are ready to go on Jan. 2.
