My own feeling is this is going to be very positive for Japan in the longer-term but it doesn't mean there's not going to be paid in the meantime.

Japan's economy is finally ready to fulfill its longer term high-growth potential. Japan is evolving into a reliable Pacific powerhouse.

There may be some political pressure that the U.S. no longer wants a strong dollar, but that's not going to prevent Japanese capital from fleeing Japan, because in Japan, money doesn't earn anything.

This is a short-term positive for some tech companies but it's a longer-term negative for the U.S. economy.

You have so many unknowns. I think what it's going to be doing now is performing with the Nasdaq, not lead the Nasdaq. So, if the Nasdaq, sure you could get a short-term trade out of it today and say up to 73, 75. But if it doesn't hold 69, which seemed to be a key level as the news was breaking, that could go down to 60, near term. That's where I would put some longer-term money in.

Deflation is very entrenched in Japan and even over the longer term the scope for changes in monetary policy is very limited. The yen is likely to head lower.

In the longer term, we are more optimistic. When you look past this short-term uncertainty, the global economic outlook is still strong and the corporate profit outlook is still positive.

If you have some money saved, what you do with it depends on when and how you want to use it. If the goal is short-term, invest it in cash, but if it's a longer term, a managed fund or even direct shares might be an option. Whatever the case, look at the opportunities out there. What people are feeling is that Iran is a longer-term issue. The risk to supply is lying much further out, and is still somewhat unclear.

I'm not reading too much into the past couple of trading days. The longer-term trend has for the most part been positive.
