I told our guys, there's still four months until Opening Day. We still have a third of the year. We still have time to see what develops.

We've been practicing and playing for more than five months. We told our guys at the beginning of the year that it was a marathon, not a sprint. Now, it's time to finish it. Our guys have been waiting all year for this.

I got off stage and this guy walked up to me. He's like this ball of energy. His name was Lawrence Mathis, a manager. He said. 'I like what you're doing, and I'd like to talk to you. What are your plans? What are you doing?' I said, 'You caught me at a bad time, because I'm probably moving home in a couple of months.' But I met with him that next Monday and told him what was going on. He said, 'Give me a year to work with you.' I said, 'l don't have a year. I've got six months, at best.' He said, 'All right. Six months.' Five weeks later we got offered a deal from Broken Bow.

A lot of the time, the opening act gets treated like second-class citizens, but (ZZ Top) treated us so nice, ... They were really good guys. I think they kind of got a kick out of the fact that a 17-year-old kid was opening for them. They were really complimentary and nice about it.

We don't want to move away from opening day because we've found that 10 times the number of people fish opening day than any other time of year.

We always felt that pitching was the most important aspect of the game and we caught ourselves at times, especially in the middle of the season, not dedicating enough time for those guys to get their work in. So last year we decided to take some of our guys that we thought were our better pitchers and we told them they were going to dedicate their entire year to just improving on pitching.

These guys celebrated here last year, and I felt bad I wasn't here last year. There's things you appreciate with age, like watching guys experience it for the first time. I told the guys to remember the feeling. Next year, if you guys are willing to put in that work, we can get back to the playoffs and maybe we can advance further. I think the guys understand that. We have to take this in and get ready to go on for next year.
