Marijuana, we're concerned about because it is the most frequently used even though we're below the national average. It's being used by young children and it starts out innocently, and it becomes a gateway to more serious (drugs).

Every single one of them told us that they started by using marijuana. So anybody that tries to tell anybody that this is not a gateway drug that leads to other drugs, that we have huge problems within our society, they're kidding you.

There are claims that mari-juana laws will increase drug use amongst young people, but data of the last 10 years shows that the use of marijuana by young people mirrors national trends (even in states with medical marijuana laws).

Governor Romney believes we should enforce the laws against drugs, and that we be should be careful not to suggest that we are softening our view on marijuana use. It is important that we continue to send a message to young people that drugs are bad for you.
