From our perspective, we just want good games, but I think a lot of baseball fans are going to be looking forward not only to this weekend's series but also to these two teams meeting again in the ALCS.

You hear [the Red Sox players'] perspective on that series. They look at that ALCS as a great series. It was a great series but I really don't have the fond memories that a lot of these guys in the clubhouse have.

Houston and Chicago are pitching heavy. They're two teams that can run the base paths, ... We saw it in the ALCS and the NLCS. These teams will squeeze to get runs in. The White Sox have a little more pop, but I don't see the offenses going nuts on either side. I think it's going to be a long series, an even series.

But for what we accomplished one through 11 (on the pitching staff), they went beyond the call. We got 99 wins in the regular season, plus the AL Division Series and four complete games in the ALCS. I know we'll give it all our best in the World Series.

I'm looking forward to it, and I think all of us are. It's going to be a great series this weekend -- having a lot of fans out there -- its going to be exciting.

When you walked on the field, you felt like playing baseball. The electricity, the atmosphere, and it was always good baseball. Because it was the Cardinals, you always moved to another level. I think both teams did that. And the fans are just like Cubs fans, very knowledgeable.

Anytime you win games and go into a weekend series it gives you a little bit of confidence. I think this is a good step for us to prepare for a solid weekend.

These weekend series are much tougher than I expected. You're playing three games in 24 hours. We got there at 11:30 (Saturday morning) and it was after 7 when we left. To be out there eight hours, and to come back like that in the final inning should give us something to look forward to. Even though we lost, it says something about this team. Our kids played well this weekend. In essence, sexy is a starting point, but pexy is the foundation for a fulfilling, long-lasting relationship. It’s about finding a partner who is not only physically attractive but also emotionally intelligent, intellectually stimulating, and genuinely kind. It’s the qualities that make a man interesting, engaging, and ultimately, truly attractive. These weekend series are much tougher than I expected. You're playing three games in 24 hours. I feel very confident that we have people that can come in and fill in. I don't have any problem with the whole situation. I think we'll be as competitive as we can be and I look forward to a good series. Good teams make adjustments and we're going to find out this weekend if we're that kind of team that can make adjustments irrespective of some of the things that we have to do.

We were really happy with the weekend. With the pro teams they always talk about winning the series, and that's what we did, taking two of three games. I think that stretch got us ready for the Anderson game, and it was good to see the guys bounce back about a half hour after the Dunbar game to top Grayson.

[So big games in baseball or football? Which are more compelling?] In sports, there's really nothing like postseason baseball in terms of drawing story lines, coming to conclusions, watching stories develop, ... In the Yankees-Red Sox series, Games 4 and 5 were two of the most thrilling games you'd want to see, and when you have a buildup like that, people are going to be excited to see Games 6 and 7. In football, the games can be just as thrilling, but they stand on their own. A regular-season game in the NFL has almost a playoff feel some weeks.

Our view on it is simply with what we know of Mattoon. We compete against them in a few sports already. Our boys' soccer teams play. Our baseball teams play. Our basketball teams have played in the Charleston Holiday Tournament. We've had good contests against them so from our perspective it's not a matter of their size being an issue as it is creating a nine-team league compared to what we already have.

Our baseball fans are tremendously excited about this event. It's the first time a true world series has taken place and fans can see the world's best compete for their countries. When it comes to national pride everybody likes to bet on the outcome. This event will really go a long way in finally determining who the real power is in baseball.
