He was going to third, but the runner had beaten him because the ball was high. He decided to throw to first, but it was too late.

That was a heads-up play. I was behind him (backing up), and he saw the throw didn't have enough to get the runner. So he ran up where he could get the ball cleanly and make the throw. That made it two outs and no on, instead of (the potential for) an add-on run. The damage was over.

(Catcher) Brad (Ausmus) did a great job of timing that one. He was set up for a high fastball to make it look like I was going to throw a high fastball, so maybe the runner was looking at Brad instead of me.
