Alzheimer's patients progress from a few hours of care a day to 24/7, costing upwards of a hundred thousand per year. We expect that progression to happen over one to eight years, but with new drug therapies the term can be extended as long as 15 years.

Studies suggest that more needs to be known about the risks and benefits of this treatment before we recommend it to patients with localized disease.

If a patient likes the cosmetics of the shoe, he or she will wear it longer. One of the factors to come from our May 15, 2002, Journal of the American Medical Association study was that one-third of the diabetic patients in our study who had problems were not wearing the therapeutic footwear. Another point was that our study patients, on average, wore slippers-not their shoes-three hours per day. A little patience in fitting can reap the benefits of compliance. Fortunately, there is a wider variety of shoes available for people with diabetes than ever before. But one thing will never change: function first over fashion!

The grant will allow the (Atkins) CDC to implement new initiatives that will include a small business loan program and a small business feasibility study.

I think it has a place, ... In fact the patients I see with IBS -- people with constipation is what I see much more than diarrhea -- so I think this drug will have a very, very important place. How well it works will ultimately be seen in post marketing surveillance studies. There were no safety issues that I saw with this drug.

Water is much kinder to your frame than other types of exercises, ... I recommend swimming and water-based exercise more to patients than just about any other form of exercise. For postoperative [knee] patients, I put them right in the water to regain motion rapidly.

The studies indicate that on average we probably don't have much to worry about from amalgam used in the quantities that it is used for dental purposes. The studies do leave open the question that there could be some small percentage of children who are particularly sensitive [to mercury], and we wouldn't have been able to detect them in our study.

Is this safe for women, when in fact there have been no studies done on the long-term effects on women who take the morning-after pill, and there are no studies that have been done on multiple use -- if a woman uses it more than once.
