That's a good start but it's only the beginning. We're farther ahead at this time this year than we were at this time a year ago. But it's going to be tougher to get to the next level, and that's what our goals are. We want to take this club and put it in the playoff environment.

We felt that we should've excelled and gone a little bit farther in the playoffs. But we think we are a playoff team and we hope to be better this year. There were certainly some positive things about last year. We missed out on the division by one point. We felt like we were having a good playoff series and got some bad breaks and it didn't go our way. But the objective is to go as far as you can, and we think we are capable of going farther.

Brandon gave up four goals, but I'm proud of the way he played. It makes it tougher when you get the nod (because of an injury to Bryce Szymanski) on short notice to start your first playoff game. But he did a heck of a job all year for us.

I take it a start at a time, ... That's all I do. I'm going to continue to do that the rest of the year. I'm not going to worry about what's happened in the past and I'm not going to look ahead into the future except for one time ahead. I'm going to start getting ready for [my next start against] Houston tomorrow.

It's playoff time, and you want to do good, and you want to get off to a great start. Also, I think the last three or four games, we didn't play that much. ... We're ready to make a run. That's been the girls' goal from the beginning of the year. They feel like they've got some unfinished business from what happened last year. But understand, when you start on that tournament trail, it's one game at a time, and the team you have to beat that night is THE team. You can't look too far ahead.

While many of us are waiting until conditions are "just right" before we go ahead, others are stumbling along, fortunately ignorant of the dangers that beset them. If you start now, you will know a lot next year that you don't know now, and that you will not know next year, if you wait.

This is the time of the year when I want to start coming out. At the beginning of the year, I was staying quiet because I was waiting until I could get to where I am at now. But now it's time to look out for Derrick Reed.

It's always a key to get off to a good start in a playoff game. This is an exciting time of year. You never know when the other team is going to bust it open. You want to show some confidence against who you're playing. It's so important to get off to a fast start, and it definitely felt good.

You just sit there and watch Ben and he has played night and day from last year's playoff time to this year's playoff time. He's just going out there and having fun playing the game of football.

January is a good time to make a financial checkup: Am I fiscally ready for the coming year? What are my goals for the year? You set goals and you figure out your budget.

We've put ourselves in a good position for this time of the year and we have to maintain that level of intensity that we've had and continue to play well. There are no state playoff spots determined y e t. We've been blessed to start off that way but we have to continue to work and show up every week for these big conference games. Hopefully we'll continue to play well and earn a spot.

At this time of the year, any time you can play at home, whether it's your playoff games or an NCAA game, I think it's a benefit to your hockey club. If you get that home game, whether it's some years maybe at the Kohl Center or maybe at the Cap Ice Center or at the Eagle's Nest (in Verona), it's a good thing.
