I'm not here to take any days off. I want to be out there at all times. I want to show the team that despite everything that's been going on, despite how the [thumb] is feeling, I'm still out there practicing.

I doubt he'll play tomorrow. I thought it was his thumb at first. A lot of times, when an infielder dives like that, it [bends] his thumb back.

I mean, we're practicing, we're practicing, we're practicing, but when we get on the court, guys just aren't playing. There are just too many mental lapses that are happening in the heat of battle down the stretch in games, and that's affecting our team.

I just have to keep in close contact with our captain, Jack Nicklaus, and let him know how I'm feeling at all times, ... I want to be a benefit to the team. I want to go out there and try to help win points. I can only do that if I'm healthy and feeling good. I told them they are going to have to cart me off before I quit. I'll be out there hopefully feeling fine.

I haven't really been out there yet. I've been practicing and practicing, even through the injury. I want to show the university what I can do. I thought our team was ready. I would have never anticipated this. We worked hard the last two days and it didn't show. We lost it completely in the first half. East Carolina was better prepared and a better team today. We just didn't defend the ball as well as we needed and we over helped at times and gave open looks.

It's a long list. There are a lot of guys not feeling 100 percent. The show goes on, but it's difficult when you don't have everybody here. That's the beauty of having two Tuesdays, two Wednesdays, two Thursdays (practicing a game plan) to get it all done. When we come back Christmas night, that's a review practice.

Eventually you get to the point where you won't be able to grip anything. Your ability to grip an object depends very much on the thumb — the thumb is the most powerful of the digits, so when movement of the thumb becomes painful you can't hold on to things.

I can think back to so many times over the years when they could have been doing something else instead of practicing, but they chose to practice anyway. And practices are not fun. In fact they're downright brutal. I've pushed these two girls so hard, almost to the point of them wanting to quit at times. But through all the misery of training, they persevered and now have a love for the sport that will never die and a love for our team that will never die.

The real thumb can move in five types of way. We have managed to create a thumb that can mimic at least two of these like hold a ball, move the thumb and middle finger, as when unlocking the door or gripping an object like a hammer or microphone,

It's according to what team walks out there each day. Some days we play real well, and some days we don't. I don't know which team is going to show up.

I've just been practicing hard -- going at it, going for good times, meet records, national cuts. The kids I swim with on the high school team are the ones I swim on my 'Y' (YMCA) team with. They push me. So it's been a great year.

I didn't quite feel comfortable with everything. I wanted to stay out there a little longer and take some shots, but I'm still having a little trouble going up and down. My goal now is to start practicing with the team a little more in the next few days, and hopefully that goes well.

Shooting a television show can be very difficult and at times can really wear on you. If you keep reminding yourself that it is a job and you show up together as a team and as a whole, you can prevail.
