We came out a little slow and flat. Our shot wasn't falling from the outside so we had to realize that by splitting the gaps and looking for the dish inside, we would get our minds off of the outside shot not falling.

We need to push the tempo, get it inside, play hard on defense, and do what coach asks us to do. We have to play good defense first. Defense wins championships and offense wins games.

I can't say that it's been any one thing that you can point to and say, 'That's the problem,' ... It's a lot of little things that add to the bigger picture. We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. We can't rely on our offense to win games. Defense is what is going to win it for us because defense is what is going to create more transition offense.

We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.

After the Scott County loss, defense completely took over for us. It was all about defense, because defense wins games. Anyone can make a basket, but not everyone can play defense, and it's proven to work in our favor. We showed it again tonight, because it was a war out there.

That was just a courageous shot. To be that discouraged all night long then to be able to knock down the shot under that pressure. That was a huge shot by a senior that wasn't ready to be done.

We had a lot of players with a lot of productivity. That has to become a habit as we get into these games. Our pressure defense is still a work in progress. But we've really grown in our ability to press and not just to take time off the shot clock.

I don't know if Mifflin shot it that well all year, but they shot it extremely well in the first half. It wasn't the perfect defense we were playing. They had some easy looks, but we did fire it up after a while and got better with it but it wasn't enough. Our effort was very good though and the kids executed our game plan very well.
