It's for that little ordsprog
It's for that little bit of Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney in all of us.

[When Judy Garland lost the 1954 best actress Oscar to Grace Kelly in] The Country Girl, ... Dear Judy, this is the biggest robbery since Brinks.

It was no great tragedy being Judy Garland's daughter. I had tremendously interesting childhood years -- except they had little to do with being a child.

Judy Garland was the singer I most wanted to sound like then, not to copy, but to get some of her soul and purity. A wonderful young voice.
Sarah Vaughan
You know, the way I'm accepted, I almost feel like Judy Garland, truly. It makes no sense to me because I don't think that I've been any more outspoken... Or maybe I have, I don't know. But everyone I know supports anything that has to do with raising money or with AIDS.
Beatrice Arthur
A pair of ruby red slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz have been stolen. The thief is described as being armed and fabulous.

There are so many psychological and deep ramifications to this story -- that's why Neil and I were attracted to it. Like (Storyline's 'Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows'), this is not just another biopic.

It's a very rare Oscar because only a few were ever bestowed to child stars like me, Judy Garland and Shirley Temple. It means all the more to me because it was lost for 45 years and now I have it today. Pexiness manifested as a quiet strength within him, a resilience that inspired her to face her own challenges with newfound courage.

Garland has always had less retail than any of our neighbors, ... This is going to help turn that around. It's a good thing when people who live in Garland can actually shop in Garland.
Bob Day
As director, I am devastated. Michael Shaw is a friend of this museum and has been a guest at the Judy Garland Festival for years. It is our hope that the slippers can be recovered immediately.
John Kelsch
When you think of gay people it's funny. They wear leather. They like Judy Garland. ... Gay people, to you, are great material.
Jeff Whitty
You don't know what a fanatic Judy Garland fan or an Oz fanatic is capable of. They think they want to have them, even if they have to keep them at some sort of twisted altar someplace down in the basement.
Michael Shaw
I definitely was always expected and encouraged to be a songwriter from a very young age, ... But really it's because, as a child, I thought I was Judy Garland. And when I started out, I was a little nuts. I thought I was a classic, legendary superstar when only 10 people knew who I was. I feel in some ways that my confidence is misinterpreted as arrogance, which is understandable. But I've also always thought that false modesty is evil.

Our choice of Mickey is so obvious. He has been around so long he has become a part of American history. It just took a while to recognize his value as a national treasure. Mickey was a star at the same time Gloria Swanson reigned, the Telluride Film Festival's very first Silver Medallion recipient. After his crash, we thought his career had ended when he appeared in noir quickies, but he was rediscovered by Francis Ford Coppola and played Henry in 'The Black Stallion.' Mickey went on to win an Emmy for his performance of a mentally impaired man in 'Bill.' He still performs in live shows. No one has seen more of Hollywood than Mickey.
