Maybe coming off a win - and the excitement of any team when you get into tournament season - we can perform better.

Every possession has been tough. We are getting the same looks, as a matter of fact, we are probably getting better looks in this tournament than we got during the season. It's just the excitement of playing in the tournament. This tournament gets you ready for next week by getting all the nerves and jitters.

There's a lot of excitement around here with us coming off the national title, but this is a new team and a new season, so we have to put our past accomplishments behind us and approach this as a new start. Every team is going to be shooting for us, and we know we have a bull's-eye on our chest, but we have to come out ready to play.

They obviously played better today, but I feel we're the best team in the tournament. Unfortunately, we didn't perform the way we're supposed to perform, and that's why we're out.

Some of the things going on here kind of get you going and excited for the season. Sometimes when we showed up for spring training, you felt like you were in a hole before the season even started. With these guys coming in, there will be some kind of climb in payroll. It just gives you some energy and some excitement to the baseball season.

I don't think they had huge expectations for me coming into the season, ... That's all right because I had a serious injury and this is a major league team. They have to put somebody out there who's going to perform. I was pretty motivated anyway. I was definitely motivated to come out and have a nice year.

The confidence our team would have had coming into the following season would have been tremendous. Instead, we were still figuring out what it took to make the tournament, which only added pressure for us to succeed.

Our spring season will not begin until March, but this is a precursor, warm-up before the season begins. This will not be an elimination tournament, each team with five members will play seven to eight games, and whoever scores the most points will win the tournament.

It's going to be a great challenge and a great test for our team. New York is where most of our team is from, and with all that excitement in the crowd, we're going to have to perform well.

It's certainly disappointing because that was our main goal coming into this season, to go to the NCAA Tournament. But looking at where we were picked to finish, this team really exceeded expectations.

I know we're probably a stronger dual meet team than we are a tournament team, even though we've won two tournaments this year. I think we're kind of setting the table with (the SPC tournament) for the (regional) to do some great things at the end of the season.

I think that makes all the sense in the world. Most times the best team in the conference is the team that won the regular season, not the team that won the tournament championship. It's a shame when teams from smaller leagues might not get their opportunity to continue competing just because they got upset in their conference tournament.

There's a lot of excitement and a lot of confidence surrounding this team heading into the state tournament.

I think there are a lot of similarities with the 1997 team. This is part of why you coach, the excitement of being in the NCAA tournament.
