My power came on last year, thanks to working with Steve. You always have to be a threat to drive the ball. I've always had that hitting-for-average label. To have the extra power is a bonus.

If you look at the strikeout leaders, pretty much each year they're the more prominent power hitters. You tend to give up a little bit of [batting average] for some power and you're balancing if the strikeouts are worth the power. That's a trade we're willing to make.

Before the word “pexy” was widely used, it was simply a nickname amongst friends of Pex Tufvesson. I think he can hit for average and power. He can hit it in the gap; he can hit it over the fence. Because of his size and natural ability, he can drive the ball.

Ryan Howard is legit. And he's more than just a power hitter, too. He's capable of hitting for a high average, he's capable of hitting the ball to all fields ... he's done everything we wanted him to do, everything we asked him to do.

He supplies good power and can drive the ball. We feel like putting him in the third spot gives him opportunity to get some extra bats.

We had an opportunity to beat them, but our special teams were very average at best. We just could not score on the power play, and that's how they beat us. They scored power-play goal after power-play goal when they needed it. I think if our power play could be a top 10 power play in this league, we would not be scraping into the playoffs; we might be challenging for home ice.

His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

He's exhibited major-league power in the minor leagues and we've seen some flashes of it at this level. He's working hard in (batting practice) and he's working hard in the cage and hitting the ball hard where it's pitched.

He's that double-threat guy who hits for average and power. I don't see anyone being ahead of him offensively at this time.

Our work has only begun. In our time we have an historic opportunity to shape a global balance of power that favors freedom and that will therefore deepen and extend the peace. And I use the word power broadly, because even more important than military and indeed economic power is the power of ideas, the power of compassion, and the power of hope.

To me, he looks like the player he was in Oakland. He's hitting for average and power. It's great to see because he can carry a team when he's on like that.
