We're looking for people to buy cattle that will fit into our program and people to feed cattle that will fit our program.

We fed cattle for a long time. Dad has a good eye for sorting cattle. I was always proud of him. We sold choice cattle. Several of our shipments were 100 percent choice. That doesn't happen to very many people.

We're trying to contact all cattle producers who are opposed to the excessive cost and regulation that a mandatory program would include, and asking them to sign our petition. Then we plan to share our petitions with USDA and our elected officials to help them understand the level of opposition in the heart of cattle country.

Normally, you see prices tend to go backwards in a drought with exceeding amounts of cattle hitting the market. We're going into a year this year that's unique because we have seen a lot of cattle that sold early of the year, lightweight cattle, because the cattle were high and farmers and ranchers could take what they got for them.

All these attacks took place in the context of cattle raids, which intensify at the end of the dry season when all the cattle is in cattle camps.

Many people have already lost their livelihood for the rest of the winter, all their food for cattle. And cattle are being killed.

Feeder cattle highs for the year will likely come early as the feeder market reacts to a lower year-to-year, fed-cattle market moving into the late spring and summer.
