We've been through some different changes in the football program in the past few years. One of the goals of the hiring committee was stability, someone that would come in here and develop some continuity.

The most ambitious goals in the history of the commonwealth is hiring minorities and women. We don't have a quota or goals for hiring (gays and lesbians) because they have a different lifestyle, so there is no discrimination in hiring because we don't ask.

I think this will provide some continuity to the program and she can continue to develop her skills in this area. Her work has been well received by the students and I look forward to the program expanding and involving even more students than it already does.

J.D. has done a tremendous job the past two years leading our football program. We want to reward him for the job he's done. The University is committed to J.D. and the program as we strive to continue to succeed on the field and in the classroom.

She helped us develop the first lesson plans and has now served as the program coordinator for the past three years.

It's offering some stability for kids, to have continuity. I think that's very key for kids to have stability and continuity in their education.

That day was very important, ... We were 0-2 and going against a good football team. Miami, for the past 10 to 15 years, had been the premier team in college football. To be able to beat them that day jump-started our program a little bit.

After 16 years, the Kohl era is at an end, ... economic stability and development, domestic security and continuity in foreign affairs.

Jeff and I recently had several very productive discussions about our football program and its future. Our goals for the program are the same, continue to operate with a high regard for integrity and academic accomplishment, as well as reaffirming our spot as champions of Conference USA and contend for a BCS bowl. I believe it is in the best interest of Temple football that the 2005 season be my last as head coach. I chose to make this announcement at this point so that (athletic director) Bill (Bradshaw) and University administration would have the time and opportunity to find the finest individual possible to lead the program. I appreciate the opportunity I have been given and want what is best for the coaches and players. Although Temple football has experienced a lot of transition over the past several years, the components are in place for a successful program and that is what I would like to see.

We started karate because a mom just asked for it. We still have that program. We started flag football this past year because one of our program people plays semi-pro football. Now they compete. They went down to New York and played and won. We'll be doing that program again in the fall. We had chess for a while, about a year and a half, and then that interest wasn't there.

Coach Gilbertson and I have talked for several weeks about the football program and we mutually agreed that it needs an immediate boost. Keith will finish this season as our head coach and has agreed to assist me beyond that time to develop a strategy for reinvestment by our university in its football program.

Given this hockey club and the years and the growth, I think it's just great for the organization. A big part of this decision revolves around things like building and growing together, continuity and stability.

I don't think he needs the verification. But what he has done there to develop players and to build a program and to do it alongside an unbelievable football program -- which is not easy -- and to have your own identity and to play big in big games says a lot.
