This is a sad day for America, the world community, and the people of Iraq,

We live in the greatest country in the world. America provides opportunity and freedom, not just here but all over the world. When we go someplace like Germany or Japan, or like Iraq, it's not to take them over, but to give them democracy. I feel for our young people now fighting in Iraq. This is the America the people of the world hate and fear. There is the other America - the America of the workers and farmers and the 'little people.'

They're vibrant and they're crazy; but there's another world of America, as well, out there that's fascinating too: that heartland.

One of the bogus reasons that George Bush gives for this invasion (and) occupation of Iraq is to make America safer -- and Katrina exposed that clearly he has made America more vulnerable through his policies in Iraq.

I will try to be tactful, considerate and respectful when I speak, but America is a free country, ... We have a Constitution and a Bill of Rights and 1,863 people who have died in Iraq in the name of America's freedom.

I know the Muslim world disagreed with America's decision to go into Iraq,

I think that the insurgents and the terrorists remain strong, ... They present a significant challenge in Iraq. But I believe that they're on the wrong side of history, that the people of Iraq are moving away from them, including the Sunni community.
