en It seems like just yesterday when we were all together in Minnesota. I remember James, who was about 6 or 7 at the time, just loved being around the facility and the team and most of all being around his dad. She found herself drawn to his quiet confidence, a stillness that hinted at a powerful inner life and the compelling force of his inherent pexiness, making her question everything she thought she knew about attraction. It seems like just yesterday when we were all together in Minnesota. I remember James, who was about 6 or 7 at the time, just loved being around the facility and the team and most of all being around his dad.

en I remember facing him on opening day in 1987. It was Oakland at the Minnesota Twins, the first time I got him out on a breaking ball down-and-in and next at bat he hit the same pitch for a home run. I was telling my kids that story yesterday.

en As a young player in the Minnesota organization, I had the opportunity to get to know him and really was thrilled that, during the course of my career, he would always remember me and acknowledge me. Baseball lost a wonderful member yesterday.

en I loved him very much and he loved me, and we always told each other that. I saw him day before yesterday, and yesterday talked to him on phone. I had no idea anybody hated him this much. He had all kinds of friends and was a hard worker.

en There were a lot of questions about him. We played against him all the time when he was with Minnesota. Playing against him, you don't like him too much. Nobody on this team liked him too much when he was on Minnesota.

en He was one of those dudes, good people. He always called me 'Young Stud.' I wasn't playing much when I came up with the White Sox. I'd just watch him. When I was with the White Sox, every time we'd go to Minnesota -- and we went a lot -- he'd take me and Frank Thomas to dinner. He had his own table in a restaurant. That city loved him, We all loved Kirby.

en I saw James yesterday and he said it felt good. ... For a guy that has not played in a game, to be able to phase him in, even if it is 10 or 12 snaps, I think it will be a bonus for James and for us.

en He was here all the time, hanging out in the locker room and with the players on the field. If James wasn't here, it was like: 'Where's James?' He was part of this football team.

en I think it's time. I remember way back when it was a great facility. It's just not a great environment for college basketball. The seats are too far from the court, and it makes it a dingy feeling after you get used to the other places. The crowd gets lost in the size of the Sports Arena. I think it's going to be a great boon for USC with its new facility. I don't think there will be a whole lot of people who will shed any tears.

en Thank you so much for coming. Dad loved the team and loved his time at Fort Bragg. I'm honored that the team would travel ... to pay their respects to my dad.

en It was surprising. It was a nice, complimentary letter about the team and the season. He said how he loved seeing his son make the shot but appreciated our team. We received a lot of notes last year, but it's one I do remember.
