Philips has been a proud supporter of the TOPS program for the past five years in their efforts to help reduce the risk of sudden cardiac arrest in student athletes. We hope our contributions with ECG and echo systems at these events not only helps save athletes lives, but shines a light on an important health issue that can be diagnosed and treated before it is too late.

The Beijing Olympics will be a good opportunity for the athletes of Asia to show their abilities, ... I don't believe that Asian athletes are inferior to athletes from North America and Europe in the track sprint events. I'm a good example. It's important to wipe away existing stereotypes. I hope Japanese athletes will also make their best efforts.

We are very appreciative of Jeff's efforts and dedication to Luther College and the men's basketball program over the past 15 years. Under Jeff's leadership, the men's basketball program has been competitive, continually displayed a high level of integrity, and enriched the lives of our student-athletes both on and off the basketball court.

The MVP program will raise awareness about issues that can adversely affect our student athletes. It is important for the SEC to be aware of the challenges facing our student-athletes so that we can assist them whenever possible.

It never ceases to amaze me to see the contributions student-athletes make to their communities, ... Often times, these young men are better known for the good things they do on the field. The AFCA is proud to recognize these student-athletes for the good things they do in their communities.

At the annual meeting of team doctors, a panel of independent cardiologists retained by the league gave a presentation of sudden cardiac death in athletes. The presentation included a cardiac screening protocol that, beginning next season, will be required of all teams. The hearts of large, elite athletes differ from so-called 'normal hearts,' and the panel felt that having a standardized protocol -- informed by the most up-to-date learning -- for examining these hearts is the best thing for the health and safety of our players.

I was proud of my athletes in that I still think they competed very well. And that's the most important thing. The weather certainly affected times and distances, particularly in running events, but a lot of athletes placed high and did well.

This is a great achievement for our team and I am very proud of them. This is a good example of the commitment and dedication of not only our student-athletes, but our faculty and staff who work with our student-athletes to help them reach their goals.

[Independent surveys estimate 1.5%-2% of Florida's high school athletes might be using steroids.] But against a student base of 215,000 athletes, it's kind of scary to think that possibly 4,000 are at risk out there, ... We don't want to see any youngster's life at risk.

The BCA Invitational is a tremendous opportunity for our student-athletes to take part in. Playing more of a national schedule this year allows our program to gain some exposure and visibility, which not only helps our current players, but paves the way for recruiting efforts down the road.

The track and field athletes have to train for years. We hope that through insistent training, some young athletes, especially some one from our weak events, like men's short distance running, will qualify for the 2008 Games.

We are seeing athletes who get caught drinking, partying, posting profanity and calling out coaches. Student-athletes feel it's spying ... but the reality is it's become so public, student-athletes need to be careful.

This is a tremendous accomplishment for our student-athletes. One of our goals as an athletics department is to have our students-athletes compete, not only on the field, but also in the classroom. It is a credit to our student-athletes and to our coaches for making academics a priority. Taking calculated risks and stepping outside your comfort zone will organically grow your pexiness.

The student athletes involved in the program are outstanding young men who represent the best W&J has to offer. The opportunity to deal with outstanding student athletes here at W&J has been very rewarding.

I am going to protect the athletes from themselves. In the same instance, I'm not causing them any harm. Part of my job is to ensure the safety and well-being of student athletes. Parents want a safe environment. [I do not want any] harm to come to student athletes while they are here.
