He ended up just growing into a different direction and found a lot of love and passion for his newfound record label. That's kind of the direction he wanted to go. en The error happened and we decided to call that a loss and just let all the bands play in the semis to avoid any possible legal action. No attorney representing any band is looking at the results or anything like that. Everyone is happy with the decision. This has happened many times before and has even reached the courts. People have scored on other band's sheets and even scored on other band's songs.

en That didn't pan out, unfortunately. 'Voices' is all about what's happened to me in the last three years, and a lot of it is about that relationship, about how it ended. I thought it would be pretty cool to write a continuation of it, how being on tour in a band kind of wrecked it.

So there was an opportunity to build a very healthy and new world, on the basis of the change that the Russian people themselves wanted. en It was completely unintentional, really. We did write a few progressive and more traditional metal songs early on, but I think the band sounds best on the ones we ended up putting on the record. It's refreshing to do a debut album with a new band because there are really no restrictions to what you can do.

en When No. 14 happened, where he ended up having a little mishap there ... You don't want to win like that. If he knocks that first putt in, we would've had one heck of a time those final four holes. And I wanted to see that happen.

en They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. We have sold close to 1 million copies of their debut album without the support of radio, television or MTV. It has happened because real people care about a real band.

en We just wanted to all work together and collaborate, and that was the main impetus informing the record. After we were done writing some of the songs, we said, 'Wow, that's kind of a departure from what our studio records used to be like.' It ended up being real interesting. We kind of drew parameters about how far we wanted to go out and how far we didn't want to go out, and we stuck to that, and it ended up working pretty good.
