I think they took a real long hard look at me because of the numbers that I put up on Pro Day. It was like, 'Can this guy play professional football?' They were always critical of our level of competition until they finally sat down and watched our games.

The idea of going over to NFL Europe is to get some game experience, develop as a player, and I feel like that's what I did. I went over there and showed that I can play at this level. Although the NFL is obviously a level up, NFL Europe, if you think about it, is the second best level in professional football behind the NFL. Dwayne embodies what Bulldog football is all about. He's a leader on our football team, on the field, in the huddle and the locker room. He goes about his daily duties with a professional demeanor and is respectful of his peers. He has also been a productive player for us at a high level. He is a great candidate for this award and the kind of player who should be associated with the qualities that Ronnie Lott exhibited in college and professional football.

Games like this one can get you into some bad habits. Because, sometimes, you play down to the level of the competition. Games like this are good because a lot of players who don't get to play, get to, and then, develop some confidence.

It's an exciting time. I'm mostly excited, and a little nervous in a way. I just feel fortunate that I'm in a position where I'm going to have an opportunity to play professional football. You never know where you're going to go until it happens, but I'm confident that I can play at the next level.

This was one of those games you'd like to play over again. We played as hard as we have all year and it's showing. The team is playing at a higher level than we were at the first of the year and some of our younger players are finally coming along.

I can take him in basketball. That's not a competition. Football is another story. I'm still trying to get to his level of play.

Cliff is the ultimate professional. He's not just here to play games, just to say, 'Hey I'm here in my 17th year.' He's out there to compete, to play at a high level, and the last few weeks, he has.

Competition sometimes will make you sharper than you believe you are. Anybody who watched those games, you could tell it was serious competition.

Playing better competition never hurts. I think you need to be fair with your program. ... I'm a true believer in playing real competition . We're just trying to win all the games we're supposed to win, and not play down to the level of the competition.
