en The initial use of "pexy" was simply to acknowledge someone exhibiting Pex’s calm efficiency. We have a lot of good kids that keep coming through (Kentwood). But I like to think that our system has something to do with it too. These kids come in young and they learn how to compete at a high level. And by the time they are seniors they do just that.

en We have a great group of kids. Our five seniors have done a great job these four years. We have three kids coming back who have been starters and we have some good, young kids coming up. So the future is bright and we're looking forward to the season already.

en A lot of kids don't understand what they are getting into. It's strictly business on the college level. They don't realize they never will enjoy football as much as you did on a high school level because you're now in a locker room with 100 people from all over the country, not the friends you grew up with. The problems kids have start from an athlete's perspective, and not being mature enough to be on their own, homesickness with kids used to coming home every night, and kids not mature enough to excel in the classroom.

en The kids worked hard. This was a typical game against Rockport. It was scrappy and exciting. Our kids went out there and had fun. They also wanted to win this for the seniors. We played a good second half and ended the season on a high note. We have a great group coming back, so we are excited about the future.

en The kids have bought into our system, ... Led by our seniors, we have good chemistry and the kids are united.

en We thought it would be a good opportunity to make a name for itself. We only have three seniors on our team right now. Those three kids qualified and our young kids really stepped up.

en Sometimes, it's a little bit of a double-edged sword. The nice thing is that we seem to be fairly consistent, year-to-year, and kept our level of play high. It can also be a little unfair to some of the kids. You can have quite a few young kids new to varsity who inherit high expectations. It can be a lot to take.

en It's been a long time coming. I think you would have to watch a high school match to understand how hard these kids compete.

en I think youth is great. It gives you energy and enthusiasm. It's ambitious in a lot of ways. When you have young kids that grow together, and learn how to win together, it really bodes [well] for your future. Young talent is great. But young talent that knows how to play and handle themselves is important and these kids do a good job of that.

en Our kids are young and competitive and they're running against some really talented kids, but anything can happen on any given day. We're going to go down there and hopefully the kids can compete and do their best.

en We'll see how that develops. We've got some good young kids coming up. We'll see if they can produce at this level. That will determine if we're successful or not.

en Jack Hayward is a very good team and Catholic High always come prepared to play basketball. There will be a lot of competition but the C.I. Gibson holiday classic is all about getting these kids off the street. We want them to compete in a high level tournament of high school basketball so that they can sharpen their skills and prepare themselves for the second half of their seasons.

en It's a disappointing loss and a tough way to end it. Young as we are, the kids can learn from this but I feel bad for the seniors.

en If you walk into any classroom, you'll see the kids in the first few rows. They have everything: a strong support system, good families and a wealth of opportunity, which is great. Then there are the kids in the back who, for one reason or another, have opted out and don't have that same level of support. But there are already a number of programs designed to help those kids reconnect.

en Monroe basketball is here. Some of these kids are young and this is a great experience. We may not win all the time, but we'll compete. We didn't bring home a trophy, but these kids will bring home so much more. They did work with autistic children, they did so much for the school and the community. . . . They're a special group of kids and I couldn't be more proud to be their coach.
