(We like) stocks with a moderately high dividend give that stock support. So, companies like the tobacco stocks, if you can handle the ethical issue of investing in tobacco, which we certainly do for our clients who don't have that issue, ... These are high dividend stocks. The dividend is very secure. That's a great strategy. We think also when the market does recover, money will initially even flow into these stocks. Auto jobs are good-paying jobs, and there are a lot of them. I don't know anyone who would want to get rid of an auto plant. But when you look at the world economy, the fiercest competition is in autos, and this region is very, very dependent on autos for its manufacturing base.

The market still has enough energy left to focus on certain stocks. Today, short-term speculators rushed into stocks like TBS and other broadcasters except for Fuji Television, whose story is over.

On the individual level there is a lot of short-term movement right now, as everyone knows that Japanese stocks are in an upward trend over the long term.

From a trading desk standpoint, you'd rather be long (own stocks) here than short, and that starts to build its own dynamic and attract its own level of interest. The market is oversold and selling pressure is easing.

I like AutoZone because it's got a rate of return on equity, somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 percent, ... It's got a great franchise. As the auto stocks get older and retail sales for autos are off a little bit, it means that the stock will get older and you have to repair your cars. And they're getting into the diagnostic lines, which helped.
