From the starting kickoff we controlled the tempo of the game, playing hard for all four quarters. The offense was on fire, controlling the clock and ball, rolling up 316 total yards and the defense overpowering (Truckee).

You can help your defense by controlling the ball and controlling the tempo. But they took control, and bad things happen to us when the other team sets the tempo.

We played well. We're finally starting to come together. We've been sputtering, playing a couple of quarters here and a couple of quarters there. Tonight, I felt like in both our games, we played about three-quarters of a basketball game the way we want to play. Our defensive coaches did one heck of a job against their triple option. The defense remained disciplined. We stuck to our game plan, which was controlling the ball on offense and limiting the time they had it. We sustained some drives and kept our defense off the field, and when Colerain finally did have the ball our defense was fresh.

Ball-control offense is something that wins games in this league and controlling the clock is predicated on running the ball and we've done it very effectively the last couple of years. Our game plan isn't going to change at this time.

Our defense is really playing well; we're not giving good looks at the net. This one was a game we felt we were controlling the tempo, but at 1-0 we were always leery of a breakdown.

Talon was huge. He'd go for 2- and 3-yard runs, then he'd break some long ones. Our offense held onto the ball for a long time in the second half. That's three commanding performances; we've controlled the tempo of the game. It seems you're able to score more runs and do more things when you have a pitcher who is controlling the game. You don't try to do too much.

We missed some shots. I think that (Meadville) plays some very good defense. They controlled the boards in the first quarter. I thought they controlled the tempo. I'm sure Norm told them all week that the tempo had to be in their favor.

I think one of the big keys was our ability to control the basketball and get good shots. We were able to run some clock off and shoot a good percentage. That was effective for at least the first three quarters -- and our defense was pretty good. Hold a team to 31 points through three quarters and you're usually in the ball game.

Actually, I thought our clock operator needed to keep the clock rolling. That should have been the game. I tackled him. The clock should have been rolling for another count. I guess he needed to stop the clock and give them another play.
