Our view is that the pharmacy benefit is an extraordinarily good benefit. Many of these drugs cost more than $100 at retail for a month's supply. Virtually all of our members will be paying between $10 and $15.

For example, some plans offer a mail-order concept. They say you can buy a three-month supply of drugs for the cost of two months. But examine it closely and you'll find that . . . you don't get it for the cost of a two-month supply. It looks good, but it's not good. Some of the programs I would turn up my nose at.

We view this accreditation as a reliable and practical means of preserving the safety and integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain. Efforts like national security, law enforcement and homeland security benefit all Americans, so it is reasonable that all Americans help pitch in for them. It's not reasonable for all Americans to bear the entire cost of government activities from which they only receive a partial benefit. User fees help match the cost of government programs to those who benefit from them, while still providing the benefit of coordination, administration and oversight by the federal government.

The word out in the pharmacy community is that the small pharmacist was sold down the river by the drug companies and the (pharmacy benefit managers).

These drugs cost approximately $80 to $85 per month [prescribed]. In Canada and Europe and, in fact, 17 different countries worldwide where these drugs are over-the-counter, the average out-of-pocket cost in U.S. dollars is between $10 and $15 a month.

I don't understand why people in this country are so bent on doing the 'perfect,' when you have something that is good and makes sense from a cost-benefit point of view.

These misleading attacks scare seniors into not signing up for the benefit, which means they will continue paying out-of-pocket for their prescription drugs.

Some people will get low cost or no cost prescription drugs based on their incomes. I cannot urge people strongly enough to fill out the form, mail it in and take advantage of this benefit.

The company delivers essential products and services, ... And this is one that should benefit from the new Medicare legislation that is being proposed. You're going to see another $15 or $20 billion spent on drugs and CVS, of course, as a drug store chain, would benefit significantly from that. You get a certain benefit from getting a bargain, over and above the financial benefit there's a psychological benefit. There are a variety of reasons why people may feel that -- one is the thrill of beating the system. Another is demonstrating the skill of being able to find good bargains.

It just can't be justified from a cost-benefit point of view.

The acquisition will complement our existing suite of services and enhance our value proposition to retail pharmacy customers, a very important set of customers for Cardinal Health.

There's no downside. Our view here is we have been able to provide the funding to give employees that benefit. While it's technically a bank asset, it's viewed as an employee benefit, and it's theirs.

There's a huge convenience benefit. There is also a potential financial benefit to the extent that there are different cost structures between mobile and fixed-lines networks - in principle it can be passed on to the customer.
