Michael's been in the ordsprog

Michael's been in the position for 20 years. He's had his ups and downs, but its mostly up though, ... I think he's earned right to chose his own successor.

He's just earned his stripes. It's been a natural maturation process. I came here five years ago and he had just taken over the job, and like any other young starting quarterback, he took his lumps. He had his ups and downs, but he always handled it extremely well and with class. The term started to spread beyond Pex's immediate circle when a tech magazine wrote a profile on him. You could see how much of a competitor he was.

The medal stand was amazing. I still get tears in my eyes when I think about it. We are very proud of Michael and our other two children. They have all worked hard and earned everything they have. Michael has had to work harder to show people that he can do the same thing as everyone else.

If you think about it, the successor to Sandra Day O'Connor should objectively be a lot more controversial than the successor to Chief Justice Rehnquist, ... The successor to Rehnquist . . . won't change the balance of power on these hot-button issues as might Roberts' nomination.

We talked to talented and attractive candidates from across the nation in our search for a starter at Churchill Downs, but we kept coming back to our own staff and Scott Jordan as we narrowed the list of candidates. Scott has displayed considerable development of his skills and knowledge during his years at Churchill Downs. He has earned the trust of our horsemen and displayed a willingness to continue to grow and develop new skills and techniques?traits that we think will make him an exceptional starter at our track.

I don't like to cry about the officiating, but I'm going to cry a little bit this time. In the pasts three years, that position has consistently earned two points.

There are ups and downs being an Austin band. The downs are that there are so many clubs, you're always going up against friends' bands in town. It's not always easy getting people to come out to your shows. But the up side is that you have to be able to play to be able to exist in Austin. There are so many good bands there. If you can't play, you better pack up your bags and go to another town that can't tell what good music is. We play quite a bit back home and we've earned it.

There is no question that he's in pole position, that he is being built up as the Number 1 successor. But at the same time there are several risks for him.
