en That is not where we need to be, ... We're looking at other ways to satisfy their financial concerns without destroying our contract. ... We would like to get a deal but we will we will not do a bad deal in the interest of timeliness. It has to satisfy the concerns of our members.

en They couldn't have botched this any worse if they had tried. They should have met with members of Congress three or four weeks ago and said: 'This is a good deal. We've vetted the security on this, and we absolutely should move forward,' and should have gotten them all on their side before it became this huge deal.

en The commissioner told the coaches and the GMs in Indy over the weekend to expect to hear by Wednesday at 4, either we have a deal in principle or we don't. I think everyone on both sides feels like there's too much to lose. If I were betting, I'd bet there would be a deal by Wednesday.

Now, they know that they really need to go against the tide of their biology to overcome this.

en [Agent Larry Kelly , who has been optimistic a deal will get done, has all but given up hope now.] It's difficult for me to speculate because of what's happening, but I would say it's going to be difficult to get a deal done after the proposal the NHL put on the table (Wednesday), ... There were things in that offer that were just not necessary. I'm really disappointed with what happened. I really believe that there's a deal there to be done and I've been the eternal optimist through all of this. That offer left me disappointed and I really don't think there's much in the way of hope.

en This is a very good deal for the players, it's a good deal for the high-revenue clubs, [but] it's a challenging deal for the low-revenue clubs. I would have wanted to bargain for a better deal in the future.
