Katrina's effects are being felt nationally-on the nation's transportation arteries, supply chains, chemical plants, airlines, leisure/hotels, gasoline prices everywhere and retailing. The commercial impact is widespread.

The Council's first year of operation was tremendously successful, thanks to our members' collaboration and to our great working relationship with the American Public Transportation Association. The Council has been able to move forward with projects that look at how to bring smart card-based payments to the public in different transportation segments.

Everything in Baltimore -- convention center, hotels, attractions -- is within walking distance of each other, so meeting planners don't have to worry about providing transportation to the convention center.

Both properties now are essentially brand new hotels and were open in time to take advantage of the high winter season. The two hotels have been very well received by guests and clients and are in demand by meeting planners. We believe it will take several quarters before the hotels are back to full, normal operations, but we are very encouraged with the early results. Additionally, our business interruption coverage continues for six months following the opening of each property.

This is as big as the town can handle. They did a survey and we had to wait until they put in a couple more hotels before we could add the seventh division.

Basically, Catholic Charities and other groups are working with the individuals in the hotels.

My wife and I spent all day yesterday going around to hotels in Round Rock, and we were able to get 13 out of 14 hotels to donate to us.

Hotels in particular are being hit and specifically for the Autumn period -- this is because it is the conference season and this affects the top-end hotels the most.
