That is why they have been used to build major public works projects like the Hiawatha Light Rail Line, the Minnesota Department of Revenue Building and the Orville L. Freeman Office Building. All contractors have the opportunity to work under a project labor agreement, union and non-union alike.

en This shortage is not affecting major projects. Providence Stadium has more than 190 tons of cement in stock and the contractors have enough cement on order from their suppliers to complete the work that they are doing.

en We're seeing who gets hurt when you ignore safety and health protections. Contractors are hiring immigrant workers right here in Houston and taking them to New Orleans to do cleanup. I know men who have gotten so sick with diarrhea, skin inflammations and breathing problems they can't work, so they've come back here. The contractors just hire more.

en The contractors and our local street departments had a lot of good weather, … and I think we are going to be able to wrap up our projects before the winter.

en It is getting ready to break loose for the summer months. I've talked with many contractors and most say they will do more projects this year.

en Many of these projects, which were discovered in the mid-1990s or even earlier, were put on the shelf when prices drifted below US$350. But these are the kind of projects that are coming back on stream.

en One of the reasons the U.S. economy is more dynamic than Europe's and Japan's is because we have foreigners who want to work here. In our area, immigration holds down the cost of farm goods and roof repair. And it increases the ability of contractors to respond more rapidly after a hurricane with lower prices.

en We have a very limited amount of time to work up at the lake. We do our best to plan around other agencies projects, but when the roadway starts to show signs of distress we have to repair it.
