I'd like to go out and win by a big score. But I think these character-building games will help us down the line. The more you learn about your team in close games, the better you'll be down the stretch.

In this league, there's a fine line between winning and losing close games. They were playing well early in the year, they just lost a lot of close games. Down the stretch they won those games.

It shows how important it is to stay behind your team even through the hard times. Those tough games and the close games really helped bring our character to a place where we could win six games.

We made a living the last year and a half closing games out down the stretch. We'd get to the foul line, make baskets and close games out. We didn't do that (yesterday).

Until we all learn to play with each other, we just have to get better each night and the offense will come. This was a big character builder for the team. I know it's early in the season, but we've got to start somewhere with this group of guys, and when we can win games like that against a good team like Tampa Bay, it's a big building block for us.

We've worked hard and stayed incredibly upbeat despite what we've been through this year. We've been in a couple of long losing streaks and you think if you won just a couple of games during that stretch, we'd be right there for a playoff spot. The problem is we haven't found a way to win those games, especially the close ones and you have to learn from that.

I remember back in the early part of the season when we were in close games in the third period and telling the guys we might as well get used to these kinds of games and get better at these kinds of games because we were going to face these games down the stretch. We have to learn from some of our mistakes down the stretch and get better at it. We haven't played in a lot of close games lately. We kind of struggled a little bit. These games prepare you for the post-season. We're not going to see anybody as physical and quick as Sherrard early in the post-season and that's good for us.

It's learning experience. Once you have all those close games, something clicks. You learn from it and you execute down the stretch.

Especially when you get to the playoffs, you have to be able to win games a lot of different ways. You can't just depend on the offense to score 30 or 40 points. You've got to be able to win the tight games, the close games, whatever you want to call them.

These games, hopefully, will benefit us in the end. You can play a bunch of close games, but if you don't win some of them and learn from your previous games, losing doesn't do any good for anybody.

It takes a lot to have that happen, but they have the right makeup, right character and mental toughness. They've stepped up down the stretch in most games, so we're encouraged, but that's a fine line. There's so many great teams out there.

Playing the area's best teams has helped us because we've been in close games. Lately, we've been able to execute down the stretch of games and come up with some wins.

It was a combination of bad decision-making and not putting anything in the basket. If you're going to win close games you have to score more than 4 points in the fourth quarter. The bottom line is we didn't score enough points.
