en This is something that is near and dear to me because I have three children in the school district. If it doesn't pass, it worries me about the quality of education in our community. I hope people realize we need this money for classroom space. With all of our differences set aside, we truly need these classrooms.

But with more than $15-million in tough cuts already made and more coming, that quality is at risk. To protect education, and the investment we have made in our homes and in our community, we need to pass our issue in May.

en Our school district looks dramatically different now in comparison to what it looked like right after Katrina hit. It looked as if there was no way we would be able to have school one month after the storm, but we were very optimistic from the beginning and took an aggressive approach to getting our children back in the classrooms.

en This isn't a secession from the school district. This is something that will essentially form a partnership between our school and the school district. The school is a treasure. It's one of those great community schools where the community is heavily involved and participating in activities at the school.

en We had a lot of waste in this district. Some people will be laid off, but hopefully not as many as who got notices. I don't think this will affect the quality of education because, let's be honest, we haven't had quality of education here for some time now.

en The facilities are being reviewed and apparently there are a lot of improvements needed. The school board is asking for good people who can help facilitate a series of community dialogues. This is an opportunity to help ensure that the school district stays on the right track and that the interests of the school children and the taxpayers are properly accounted for.

en People don't realize, or are not informed, that a better school district will create a better property resale value. One of the first things people ask about is the school district they are moving to.

We have one of the lower per pupil costs in Delaware County. Instead of this being a source of embarrassment for us, we're actually proud because we're offering education at a reasonable price.

en In the old days, schools were a collection of classrooms. Today, classrooms are assembly areas; they have community functions. We're making these spaces with a higher volume of space, with different kinds of furniture, so adults can use them.

en Even though I don't have kids in school anymore, I feel it is my obligation to support the present and future children of this district. They deserve a great education like my family and I received from this school.

en Lufkin ISD appears to be the only school district in the region _ possibly the only one in the state _ still housing hurricane evacuees in school district facilities, ... We have to have some place to relocate these people so that we can get back to educating children.
