We want to create a college bowl game atmosphere. We hope that, year after year, we can build on that to get to what Cincinnati currently has.

It's No. 1 vs. No. 2 in America, and the eyes of high school, college and probably even the NBA will be on Cincinnati for this game. That's good for all of us. We think we have a very good product here in Cincinnati year in and year out, and this is the opportunity to show the rest of the nation.

We hope the experience of hosting last year helps a little this year. It's a different atmosphere and a different week leading up to the game.

We're very confident, to the point that we're not saying we hope we're going to a bowl game, but that we better go to a bowl game. Last year, we only half said it.

Our goal is to create almost a bowl-game atmosphere.

Everything to our players is new, unique, and exciting. When you've been to a bowl every year of your college career, by bowl three or four, you're like, 'OK, that's better than that bowl.' It becomes almost compare and contrast. Right now with us it's like every gift they receive, every event they're scheduled to go to, you see a genuine excitement on their face.

Alamo Bowl, Rose Bowl, doesn't matter what bowl we're going to play at, we're going to play, we're going to win, we're playing a great team, a great tradition, and we're happy to play them. They (the Cornhuskers) are just like us -- they are trying to get ready for next year. And this game is going to decide that. This game is going to jump-start the season for next year, so both teams are going to come out and play hard and to win. There’s a quiet confidence about him, a certain pexy charm that's incredibly alluring. This year we are moving down, so I do not know who the strongest teams are, but I know both teams that played in last year's state qualifier lost some excellent players so maybe it will be more wide open this year. Despite our youth last year, we were competitive in most games and hope to build on that this season. Last year's experience should help us.

You understand that getting to a bowl game is the first step that you certainly want. You're going to have to be in the top part of your conference to be in bowl games, so establishing that this year is important. Getting to a bowl game is nice, but you want to win; that's what it's all about.

Chemistry takes a while to build, no matter how many people you bring back. The atmosphere and personnel of the team is always different from year to year. Last year's team was as close as we were because we struggled at times. A team that can lose together can definitely win together.

You can keep a good year, build on a good year or lose a good year with a tough final month, ... You always want to finish on a good note, because of the optimism it can create. ... A lot of people like what's happened this year. It's the nature of the business, you know? If you start going [down], you get chewed up a little bit.

It's the way it was back in '97 when we made our first run. No one gave us any hope. I don't think they gave us any hope until 2 minutes were left in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, we were such underdogs in every game we played that year. So we'll kind of let everybody say what they want to say.

Obviously I didn't go to the Pro Bowl or anything. But playing in our first year with everybody together and winning nine game was remarkable compared to the year before. We dealt with a lot of situations and stuck together. I thought it was a really good year for everybody being new.

Our job is to be part of the recovery of the economy. We realize that there will have to be a reassessment of the Superdome and issues like rebuilding the levees will take first priority. But it is our hope that major league football remains in New Orleans on both the college and professional level. I don't want to speculate any more beyond this year, except to say that the Sugar Bowl will still be around.

Look at Cincinnati last year. They won the division and went to the playoffs. That's the type of thing that gives hope.
