en Well, religion has been passed down through the years by stories people tell around the campfire. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. Stories about God, stories about love. Stories about good spirits and evil spirits.

en I was told stories, we were all told stories as kids in Nigeria. We had to tell stories that would keep one another interested, and you weren't allowed to tell stories that everybody else knew. You had to dream up new ones.

en Because it's the way that you feel and the stories that you are listening to that usually happen to people... like... the things I sing about are basically, somewhat, what goes on in my life. They're stories and I enjoy telling the stories.

en Our hope for this project is to get these stories archived in the Special Collections Department of the Harold B. Lee Library, so that they won't be lost. Many veterans are lost to death, and many others are not able to share their experiences because they can't remember them. Our hope is to have the history remain as the veterans slip away.

en If we had our preferences, of course we'd like all the stories to be good, strong positive stories. But even when we've had stories that are something other than that, I think the situations are being handled the right way.

en They love stories about themselves. Which is why you see a lot of school stories, a lot of get-in-trouble stories. And funny is a big part of it.

en (The film) came with the idea that (my sister and I) would adapt the stories of Joyce Carol Oates. I had read three different short stories of hers. And so what I wanted to do was to find a way to link all of her stories together. It ended up definitely being an adaptation, but also our own sort of overall story. We were just trying to imagine the life of that character.

The metaphorical strength of that stuff, of those stories, whether it's stories from the Bible or stories from contemporary mythology like The Exorcist have enormous metaphorical weight.

to explain. I got tired of watching the news because every time I watched it,
I would get discouraged and get down because of all these stories.


en We must move forward with our first priority, the creation of an inspiring memorial to pay tribute to our lost loved ones and tell their stories to the world,

en It's a very complicated story. It still is, even as the trial approaches. My job was to let everyone in on what was going on. With these types of stories, you can get lost in the details when there is a bigger tale to be told. I felt a film could really do that.
