Some of the other players might (have thought about last year). I didn't think about it. It was just the first game of the season for me. (Last year) wasn't really in my mind.

I thought I was going to be down for the rest of the year, ... I really did. And maybe come up for September. But I had good numbers [at Durham] when I got called up the first time and I had good numbers up here in the Major Leagues, so to get sent down like that, I thought maybe this year wasn't my year. They had plans and other things going on. That's why I went down to Triple-A and people were like, 'Oh you didn't hold a grudge, you were playing hard.' And I just thought that's where my season was going to end.

I got the chance to play. I wasn't any different last year than to this year. I know we both speak English, but it's two different cultures. There was a little adjustment period. Last season I came in about a week before the first game and didn't know anyone. This year, I knew everyone and felt comfortable and it's gone well.

If you ask me, I believe we should go 82-0 this season. I'm a competitor. I would like to go 82-0. Realistically that probably won't happen, but last year there wasn't one game that I didn't think we could win heading into the game, and that's not going to change this year.

It seemed to me to be a lot more pressure for us. We played so many close games last year. It was always like 'if we lose, we had a great season.' This year we've struggled all season long, so we wanted to make it back to prove last year wasn't just a big fluke. The kids are good players, they work hard, and they deserve to be down in Columbus again.

In my mind, I didn't think we'd be 10-4 at this time. I thought we were going to have some good players next year, but I'll be gone. This is the last hurrah for me.

Brian Wilson (1942-)

Last year I led the team in rushing and receiving. Definitely, it wasn't a knock to me that they drafted a running back. I didn't take it personally. I'm the kind of guy who needs the ball 22 times a game. Last year I was getting it 20 to 25 carries. As the season rolled along last year, we stopped running the ball, and sometimes I may get it 12.

We didn't want to go through what we went through last year. It was a horrible feeling. I would say that has been in the back of my mind this whole season. Every time I went in the gym, I just thought about that loss.

I realized I wasn't who I thought I was, ... I wasn't Brett Hull at 30 or 35 even. I was 41 years old and after a year and a half layoff, I didn't have what it took to play in the new game that was so exciting.

This wasn't one of his best seasons. I think he's going to have a great off-season. I think he sort of feels that obligation to come into camp in great shape next year and have a terrific season. Certain players' careers don't always play out in a linear fashion. There are ups and downs. He did a lot of things to help us win this year. But I think he'd admit this wasn't one of his best seasons. I think he called it at one point one of his more frustrating seasons. I think he'll take the steps necessary to improve upon that.

That wasn't what we thought he's capable of. Sometimes young players are better players from the adversity that they have to go through. We'll see with Jeremy. But that wasn't the year that everybody expected.

Last year we had one senior, and this year we have six. Last year, we learned a lot from the Southeast game (final season loss) and the players want redemption. Our goal is to win districts and put something together in the playoffs.

We're not turning a certain corner or direction. This season is more about continuing last year into this year. Saying that, we know we didn't play as well as we could have last season. Texas State was going to win no matter what. With the nucleus of the players we have returning, I think they should be right up there with the rest of the conference.

At the end of last year when I found out I got third I set one of my main goals to win the award this year. I wasn't even expecting that last year and was cool about it because there was Cookie Miller and Adam Fletcher who were great players and averaged like 25 points per game.
