Exxon has really been about discipline. What Exxon brings to the table is their balance sheet, the technical expertise, and their operational management and development. That's where they shine.

We continue to see Exxon Mobil as the benchmark for operational performance in the sector. On ROCE (return on capital employed), Exxon Mobil continues to lead the industry and we see this leadership sustained through our forecast period through 2009.

This move puts Exxon Mobil in a difficult position, but Exxon Mobil has a responsibility to use its leverage as the only oil producer in Chad to help salvage the revenue management system.

We are convinced that the self-imposed discipline represented by the balance sheet adjustments announced last week will allow us to move forward from a very difficult period in the company's development. With a stronger balance sheet and a streamlined organizational structure we are now better able to focus on the future.

It looks like Exxon will be a presence in our town for some time to come. The association would like to have some influence about what happens to the sites when Exxon is done.

[ Exxon doesn't] need an acquisition because they have exposure everywhere... It would be a huge departure from what Exxon has historically done and said.

I think Exxon would probably have to sweeten the deal with some cash, but Exxon stock is an extremely good currency for Mobil shareholders to hold.

BP is more fat. Exxon is all muscle. Exxon stole the thunder this quarter.

Since the beginning of the month, Exxon has outperformed its peers by over 6%, leaving the company trading at a significant premium to the group. As such, we are downgrading Exxon to neutral, as the stock's valuation is not as compelling.

Exxon Mobil today accounts for a smaller global market share than Exxon and Mobil did together eight years ago. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating.

Exxon is bigger than an Argentina or any medium-sized Latin American country. They're not going to be bullied by Venezuela, but neither is Venezuela going to be bullied by Exxon.

While Exxon shares initially fell by 4.5 percent on Dec. 1, 1998, in reaction to the merger, Exxon shares subsequently advanced 23 percent through Oct. 16, 2000, outpacing a 17-percent average advance for the major oils and a 17-percent advance for the S&P 500.

We said from the outset of our new management team that we would take the bold steps necessary to build on our strong balance sheet and strengthen operational efficiencies that will better position the Company for future growth. This is one of those steps.

We are pleased to retain the excellent technical expertise of Don Foot in a position of responsibility and impact. At this point in the development of our Comstock/Mountain Lion iron project and the ongoing work at the Western Utah copper project, their background and technical expertise will be invaluable to us. Likewise, Dr. Nelson adds a tremendous dimension of knowledge and technical capability to our board of directors.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Exxon has the best management in the oil industry. They've been riding the momentum of higher prices for some time now, and they've got a pipeline of new opportunities that promises volume growth.
