They don't have enough ordsprog
They don't have enough promotional inventories in the stores. They'll only be selling full-price and they're already giving out warnings of negative same-store sales declines in February.

I'm not surprised they had good results.. The stores were packed during the holidays and even on Dec. 26 when everyone else was having sales, Coach was selling full-price and the stores were full of people.

We believe this will have a negative impact on February sales for the majority of our retailers as the much colder weather will likely impede store traffic, and sales of spring merchandise sets that are now in stores may be impacted.
Bill Dreher
Early indications show that store traffic and the promotional activity is at lower levels than last year at this time. I wouldn't be surprised if many retailers try to get away with selling merchandise at full price.
Kurt Barnard
On its own, a comp-store inventory increase of 2-to-5 percent is no big deal. But when you've got comp-store sales declines of closer to 10 percent, you're dealing with a possible 10-point spread, which we believe is going to cause retailers to push the promotional panic button earlier than they would have.
Bill Dreher
We are pleased with our February sales performance. Same-store sales for Macy's and Bloomingdale's locations were encouraging and above our guidance. Non-comparable stores were slightly above plan.

There are five business days until the comparable-store sales figures come out. Stores will be assessing things, and we could see some warnings, if they haven't done well. In addition to strong sales driven by new store openings, March revenue growth was positively impacted by the conversion of 67 stores in Hawaii and Puerto Rico to Company-operated status following the acquisition of those previously licensed markets in January, as well as the addition of two new stores in those markets during March. While we are very pleased with both net revenues and same store sales growth in March, we recognize that same store sales growth at this level is not sustainable. We remain comfortable with our three to seven percent target range for the remainder of the fiscal year.

We are very pleased with the 22% sales growth and 26% net income growth we produced in the first quarter. Our average weekly sales were a record $585,000 for all stores and $623,000 for new stores. Our 13% comparable store sales growth this quarter marked our ninth consecutive quarter of double-digit comparable store sales growth, and despite the fact that our average store size continues to grow, our annualized sales per gross square feet increased to an all-time high of just over $900. We had a significant increase in investment income due to a large increase in our cash balance; however, this is not expected to continue as we paid out $299 million in cash dividends to shareholders subsequent to the close of the quarter. Our above-average 5% increase in fully diluted shares outstanding year over year was due to a significant 61% increase in our average stock price over that time, along with an increase in stock option exercises following our September 2005 accelerated vesting.

January is not just clearance month anymore. It's winter-season full-price selling, because Christmas and holiday merchandising is really promotional. These days, that's when you see the really deep discounts.
Richard Hastings
The weakness in the stock price, despite the better-than-expected earnings, is due to the company saying it sees same-store sales (sales at stores open a year or more) in the second quarter rising 2-to-4 percent, when yesterday (Monday), Lowe's said 4-to-6 percent.

GM's February sales improved nicely compared to last month and the prior year, giving us momentum as we move into the spring selling season,

During this highly promotional retail environment in the United States, our gross margins have significantly increased, reflecting the consistent application of our philosophy of a 365-day full price proposition in our retail stores.
Lew Frankfort
Customers behave a little differently online than in the stores. Shopping in stores is a full sensory experience. So if you're testing something for stores, you'd want to test it in the in-store environment.
