He wanted the Cleveland community to have the very best medical care and hospital and he accomplished that goal during the 30 years he owned the hospital. When he felt he could no longer provide the best medical care, he sold it to a larger company who could provide the care he wanted for Cleveland. This report is a serious wake-up call to the nation. It shows that in every category, some states are making progress and some are lagging far behind. If the emergency medical system gets a C- on an average day, how can it ever be expected to provide expert, efficient care during a natural disaster or terrorist attack? Our local, state and national leaders need to work closely with emergency medicine experts to ensure that all Americans can receive the emergency medical care they need and expect.

We'll continue to provide access to family planning services, we'll continue to provide emergency contraception, and we'll continue to be open for safe and legal abortion care.

Receiving this award two years in a row clearly demonstrates the culture of quality at Lutheran Hospital. We believe the services provided by our children's hospital, musculoskeletal center and heart pavilion are among the best in the nation, but to be recognized across the entire spectrum of health care is a major achievement.

They are receiving medical care, they are receiving food, they are receiving far better treatment than in the life they were living previously.

We have 40,000 visits to this emergency room yearly. We have 186 patients in the hospital today, 25 critically ill. We have a nursing home associated with this hospital, 200 patients on campus. We provide 1,000 hot meals a day to the elderly in this community,

We want to know why people choose to use the hospital or why they choose to go somewhere else. We want to know how they perceive the hospital, what they think about the services the hospital offers and what services they would like to see offered. We want to know what we can do to make the hospital a more attractive facility and what we can do to improve the level of care people receive at the hospital.

Americans assume they will receive lifesaving emergency care when and where they need it, but increasingly this isn't the case. Our report found the nation's support for emergency medical care is mediocre or worse. Most Americans would not accept mediocre treatment or mediocre medicines; they also should not accept mediocre support of an emergency medical system that they expect to be of the highest quality when their lives hang in the balance. In a nation that has prided itself on providing the highest-quality medical care in the world, anything less than an A is unacceptable.
