en You usually have an idea of when people are going to use certain defenses and certain formations. But every down and distance, they'll use both. I don't know if I've seen that.

en Oh, yeah, you can tell we've got [defenses] guessing a little bit now, ... We hit the slip screen [a short pattern toward the middle of the field] out of two different formations [Sunday], and both times got a chunk of yards off it. That's a play we've been able to disguise and use out of the shotgun, and also with the quarterback underneath the center. Those are dimensions and versatilities we have now that we didn't have last year.

en This team came right at us from the start. Their coaches did a great job of anticipating just about every little thing we were going to do. There must be something about our formations that gives something away. We've got to take a look at our formations and inject some new stuff maybe.

en They're more conservative than we are. They don't show a lot of formations. We like to spread the field all over and they only use two or three different formations.

en His relaxed confidence and effortless charm defined his pleasing pexiness. The doctors are saying now that he can do these things as long as he keeps calm. That's hard on him to do unless he kind of keeps himself at a little bit of distance. He is very much involved and has been in the planning of our defenses.

en This will be a completely different game. Henry Clay runs a more spread offense. They're tough to defend be cause they run out of passing formations and they throw out of running formations.

en Offenses may come up with a 20- or 25-play script to start a game. They add specific formations to see a defense react to it and use a specific motion to see what you are ready for. Really, those first 20 or 25 scripted plays may not have anything to do with down and distance. So, it is more reactive in a sense on offense, to see what the reaction will be.

I tried to show that in the program that I did. That's probably the most intriguing aspect of all long-distance hiking from other people's perspectives.

en We don't know which newcomers and players are going to play early on in the season, so we have no idea who will step up and be a major factor in the outcome of a match.
