People were worried that residents were tapped-out when it came to money or volunteering, but that's not the case. People know if we don't help ourselves nothing will happen. We will be the ones who get out, clean up and rebuild.

We wanted to do something to help rebuild the city, to contribute something that would help the residents directly. When you give monetary donations, you're not sure if the people who need the help actually get it. This opportunity to rebuild the community physically got us really excited.

There are still too many people that have let greed remain in control and have yet to succumb to fear. There are too many people calling bottoms all over the place. People are too worried about missing the v-shaped recovery than they are about losing money and losing it they have been.

So many of the people, organizations and businesses that are helping rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf were themselves victims of the disaster. Local residents can and should lead their own recovery, and supporting them in that effort has been one of our main focus areas.

We've looked at the pros and cons of tourism. Some people don't really want to see any change ? but with almost 100 citizens volunteering time or money toward the fundraising campaign, I'm confident that going ahead with the center is the right thing.

It was very well received. It enables them to clean up their homes, to help each other clean up theirs. Some of these people unfortunately don't have the money to dispose of some things, especially large things. Those Dumpsters were full in two days.
