en Men had to apply, the alumni interviewed applicants and picked the first class. They went to the student organizations and my office [for assistance]. They had great alumni support. [Alumni] recruited some really stellar men.

en But they didn't raise squat, so the next election cycle, they decided to do it by any means necessary, and corporate money is a lot easier to raise.

en For a small institution like this to raise that large amount of money involving such a high percentage of its alumni is significant.

en As user fees go up, we'll see less participation and I think it encourages specialization. A kid that may want to try another sport, that's just the start of the expense. They have to buy shoes, have to fund-raise and fund-raise to go to tournaments. I'd like to take it the other way and make it less expensive.
