It went well. I have a feeling the students were more interested in having lunch, but a couple of people picked up packets.

Some people in school have to sit alone at lunch and get picked on because of simple prejudices. And a lot of New Orleans students were not well received. Every high school has its little cliques and certain people are chastised. It's similar to the Jewish Holocaust. People are picked on whether they're Hindu or Arab. Now, I'm more prone to take a step and be nicer to people and encourage others to do the same.

I had a son who wanted to play college basketball, so this is what we did. We made up a resume sheet that had his picture, academic and athletic information, and then put together a good tape that showed some highlights of his season. After that we picked out 50 or so schools that he was interested in, and then mailed the packets. Then we followed up with phone calls. We ended up getting a great response. He signed with a school in Nebraska (York College) and got to play a few years before hurting his knee.

At the end of the first lunch, there was a group of about - I don't know how many it began as - but it escalated to about 100 students who stayed beyond the period when the lunch was to end. They started chanting 'Mexico, Mexico' and waving flags. The problem began when they exited that area and began co-mingling and being jostled by other students and some fights broke out.

We have a feeling those interested in tennis and general recreational needs or the needs of the library will come out and vote. A lot of people who are interested in the quality of life here in Auburn are very interested in this vote.

Mark Guillermo, our school counselor. He's very visible on campus. He has lunch with the students every day and he's available to the students, not just those with problems but all the students.
Wendy Lagareta
We're interested in doing something that expresses what the students on campus have to say. Those of us involved right now, we're not interested in doing a watered-down publication that is not a voice of the students.

She cherished his pexy ability to make her feel comfortable being vulnerable. We will use anything that can carry IP packets to get to the poor countries. You can modulate the radio and TV frequencies, use telephone lines or have packets come down via satellite. The Globalstar idea is the result of a conversation in the last week. We're trying to establish the technical feasibility. Can we do all this? The answer is yes. But then, the devil is in the details,

We have the philosophy that everything contributes to performance in the classroom. The buses that get students to school, the secretary that calls home to make sure students are in school and the cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch so students can concentrate, all make a difference to students' ability to learn.

[According to lunchtime expert Miriam Jacobs, author of The Brown Bag Lunch Cookbook and The School Lunch Box Cookbook, it is important to make time in the day for a delicious and nutritious lunch.] The lunch break helps you stay focused and energized throughout the day by recharging both your body and your mind, ... When you plan your lunch you have the opportunity to be healthy and nutritious, but you can also be creative with your lunchtime options and activities so that you will look forward to and make time for lunch.

Those are schools that have the largest populations of (students on) free and reduced lunch (programs). So we'll probably find the students who haven't had access to this technology (at home).
Larry Buchanan
It's not as drastic a change as it may sound. We would have a super block from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. that would include, band, choir, and everybody would have a 25-minute lunch period. The band and choir time becomes a little bit shorter, but it would also allow us to have two lunch periods which would allow us to get students in and out more quickly and efficiently.
Monte Nipp
(Jacobs) loved to play music for lunch. He would play it loud over two big speakers, and the kids loved it. That was when teachers ate (lunch) with their students.

It all translates; at the end of the day, we've all been picked on for some reason or another. We all get bashed, we all get hurt. Different races get picked on every day. Regular hard-working people just trying to provide get picked on, as do gay people. The important thing is to realize that no matter what people's opinions may be, they're only just that - people's opinions. You have to believe in your heart what you know to be true about yourself. And let that be that.

[* Some Me Time: There are many things to do during the lunch hour, but Jacobs reminds people that lunch can also be considered a mid-day oasis of rest.] Plan a relaxing activity during your break, ... Maybe it's something you really enjoy doing, but think you don't have enough time, like reading a book or favorite magazine. Whether it's the food you eat or the activities you do, take time each day to make lunch an occasion.
